Choosing Maternity Bridesmaid Dresses

Many brides include their pregnant friends in their bridal party. Even though it may require a little extra thought and planning, finding a maternity bridesmaid dress is not very difficult. There are a few small things to keep in mind as you decide on a dress.

First, you should make sure your friend is comfortable as one of your bridal attendants. Some women feel self-conscious, especially if they will be in the third trimester at the time of the wedding. Additionally, let her know that you understand if she feels unable to serve as a bridesmaid. If your friend does not feel comfortable, let her know that you would be honored to have her as an honorary attendant, and invite her to be present in the photographs of the wedding party.

There are various styles and materials that make flattering maternity bridesmaid dresses. When planning for a pregnant bridesmaid, you should also think of styles that will complement others in the group as well. This is not problematic, as styles that work well as maternity bridesmaid dresses often flatter other figures as well.

Maternity bridesmaid dresses made with an empire waist work well for pregnant attendants, even in the third trimester, as well as most other bridesmaids. The flowing style, beginning at the bust, also hides those little imperfections. Another good dress style for a maternity bridesmaid dress is an A-line. An A-line bridesmaid dress will flatter a wide range of attendants' figures, including the pregnant figure. It is important to note, however, that this style of dress will not work well for a bridesmaid in her third trimester.

Two of the better materials for maternity bridesmaid dresses at a formal wedding are silk-shantung and silk-crepe. These look elegant, as well as being graceful and relatively comfortable. New matte jersey is an interesting new material that has the look and feel of silk, but has the ease-of-care benefits of cotton. A semi-formal wedding maternity bridesmaid dress can be made using chenille, or even velour. For a casual wedding, fine cotton or washable silk, for coolness, is a nice choice for the maternity bridesmaid dress especially if the wedding is outdoors. These material choices complement most other figures as well.

Because it is difficult to gauge the size of the maternity bridesmaid dress you might need, it is a good idea to order a dress that is larger than you think it will need to be. It is much easier to tailor a dress in than to let it out. Your pregnant bridal attendant should have her fitting and alterations done last, as close to the wedding date as possible, in order to obtain the best fit possible.

You do not have to leave out a bridesmaid you have in mind simply because she is expecting. With a little a little bit of planning, you can include her without compromising any aspect of your wedding.
